Ghazanfar Energy's journey began in 2018 with a clear mission: to make Afghanistan energy sufficient and self-reliant, reducing dependence on electricity imports from neighbouring countries.
Our first flagship project was the 55 MW Gas-to-Power Plant in Mazar-e-Sharif, backed by financing from the IFC and the World Bank. Although the project faced delays following the political transition in 2021—when initial financiers withdrew—Ghazanfar Energy has successfully revived the project in 2025, securing new financing, procurement, and design. Construction is now ongoing, with completion scheduled for 2027.
In parallel, Ghazanfar Energy has signed agreements with Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) for four additional projects totalling 190 MW, all under active development. Looking ahead, our 10-year vision is ambitious yet achievable: 5,000 MW of new power generation capacity across Gas, Coal, Solar, Wind, and Biomass. With this vision, Ghazanfar Energy is positioning itself as the leading private-sector energy developer in Afghanistan, committed to driving economic growth, creating jobs, and building a secure energy future for the nation.
